In short
- On 25 August 2026 the Dutch market ran from €79.00 to €1,799.00, a factor of 23.
- Below €150, not a single product page we checked mentioned a non-return flap or anti-fishing feature.
- Almost nobody publishes the steel thickness, not even at €346 and €549. Only Logixbox gives a number: 1.0 mm.
- Warranty does not follow price. Allux charges €249.00 and gives 12 years against rust; Logixbox charges €355.00 and gives 1 year.
- Allow €44.00 to €149.00 extra for a post or stand if the box is sold separately.
- There is no Consumentenbond (Dutch Consumers' Association) test of parcel letterboxes. The lists that use that name are affiliate sites.
On 25 August 2026, a parcel letterbox in the Netherlands cost between €79.00 and €1,799.00, and that difference of a factor of 23 lies almost entirely in steel thickness, coating, lock and the construction that stops someone fishing your parcel back out. Expect to pay at least €150.00 before a manufacturer dares to put a non-return flap or anti-fishing feature on the product page, and €44.00 to €149.00 extra as soon as the box comes without a base.
Below you will find the complete price table from that day, per segment, with brand, model, sales channel and date. Then, for each technical choice, we explain what you get back for it: steel thickness, material, coating class, lock, anti-fishing, base and warranty. We make our parcel letterboxes ourselves in our own factory, so we know what half a tenth of a millimetre of steel and an extra coating layer do to the costing. A webshop reselling boxes cannot show that breakdown, because it never gets to see it either. What we will not do here is tell you which brand to buy. We set out the figures, we say where a source is missing, and you judge for yourself. More on the choice itself is in what size parcel letterbox you need, and you will find the overview of all topics in the Knowledge base.

What does a parcel letterbox cost in August 2026?
The lowest verified price on 25 August 2026 was €79.00 for the Homebox Pakketbox, freestanding and black, at bol.com. The highest was €1,799.00 for the eSafe Fenix Top Large at Brievenbusdirect. Between those two lies a factor of about 23. For its own range of 198 parcel letterboxes, Brievenbusdirect itself gives a range of €94.00 to €1,799.00, which gives almost the same picture from a single shop.
To make that spread manageable, we split the market into three segments: entry level from about €79 to €150, mid-range from about €150 to €400, and high-end from €400. Those boundaries are not sacred, but they do coincide with real technical dividing lines, and that is exactly why we draw them this way. All prices below were seen on 25 August 2026 and include 21 percent Dutch VAT, because that is standard in this segment. Shipping costs are not always included, and we will come back to that later.

Thirty models, and this is where the DIY stores come in: Gamma with Practo, Murcian and Hannover, Praxis with Practo and Burg-Wachter, Hornbach with Burg-Wachter and MEFA. Then there are the specialist webshops with Allux, Logixbox and PakketPanda. For the Allux 800 we recorded a range of €329.00 to €409.00 depending on version, so it does not appear as a single row in the table. For a number of models we could not record the sales channel at the time of the research. There it says "not recorded", and that means exactly that: we do not know, so we do not make it up.

Twenty-one models, dominated by MEFA, Allux, Logixbox and eSafe. That last brand has been called ONZO since February 2026. Above €700 the offering is in effect a design market: aluminium, large volumes, and finishes you will not find in a DIY store. Together these are 63 models, which gives the picture you are looking for if you want to know what a parcel letterbox costs. If you want to know what needs to fit in such a box before you look at the price, first read which parcels do not fit through a standard letterbox.
Why is the most expensive parcel letterbox 23 times the price of the cheapest?
THE PRICE SPREAD IN THE MARKET ON 25 AUGUST 2026
Bars proportional to price, highest value at 100 percent. All prices in euros, seen on 25 August 2026.
The jump from €79 to €1,799 is not pricing policy but a ladder of materials. At the bottom are plastic and wood: the Lexium at bol.com costs €94.95 and is largely not steel. Above that is untreated galvanised sheet steel, with the Allux 600 galvanised at €239.00 and the MEFA Ash 475 at €305.00. Then galvanised steel with powder coating on top, from €239.00 to €439.00, which is where the Logixbox Frontbox-Uni and the PakketPanda Maxi fall. Powder-coated steel in general runs from €239.00 to €765.00. Powder-coated Sendzimir steel starts at around €350.00, and Corten steel is around €350.00 to €400.00.
At the top is something that surprises many people: aluminium, not stainless steel. The eSafe Dropbox Medium Front in RAL 9005, 20.5 kilos, costs €1,145.00. In this segment, aluminium is the most expensive material. That is because aluminium costs more per kilo to buy, is harder to weld and is often made in smaller series, and because brands that choose aluminium also choose the most expensive finish and the largest volumes.
Materials and the price band they occupy in the market
| Material | Example models | Price band in euros | Seen on |
|---|---|---|---|
| Plastic or wood | Lexium parcel letterbox | 94.95 | 25 August 2026 |
| Galvanised steel, untreated | Allux 600 galvanised, MEFA Ash 475 | 239.00 to 305.00 | 25 August 2026 |
| Galvanised steel with powder coating | Logixbox Frontbox-Uni, PakketPanda Maxi | 239.00 to 439.00 | 25 August 2026 |
| Powder-coated steel | Allux 600 black, MEFA series, Logixbox Trendybox | 239.00 to 765.00 | 25 August 2026 |
| Powder-coated Sendzimir steel | Kunst van Staal | from about 350.00 | 25 August 2026 |
| Corten steel | Kunst van Staal Kubus | about 350.00 to 400.00 | 25 August 2026 |
| Powder-coated aluminium | eSafe Dropbox Medium Front, 20.5 kg | 1,145.00 | 25 August 2026 |
Besides material, you pay for volume, for the locking mechanism and for finish. Volume is the fairest of the three: a box that holds a week's worth of orders needs more steel than a box that fits one book package. The locking mechanism is the least visible and at the same time the most important, because it decides whether your parcel is still there when you get home. Finish is the item where the price rises fastest without the level of protection rising with it, and that is exactly what the colour comparison further down shows.
What do you get under €150, and what not?
This is the sharpest dividing line in the whole price table, and it is one almost no comparison site mentions. On the product pages we checked in the entry-level segment under €150, not a single model mentioned a non-return flap or an anti-fishing feature. Not at €79.00, not at €147.00. From €179.00 that changes abruptly: the Practo Edmonton at Gamma lists a non-return flap with damped closing, and the same goes for the Practo B720NC Hannover at €215.00, the Hannover freestanding model at €219.00 and the Practo B721N Bremen at €279.00.
- A lockable steel or plastic cabinet that a parcel fits into
- Usually a cylinder lock with two keys
- A letter opening or flap where the delivery driver can put the parcel
- With several models, a freestanding version without a separate post
- A price that, calculated per year, is close to the mid-range
- A non-return flap or anti-fishing feature
- A stated steel thickness in millimetres
- A coating class such as Qualicoat or Qualisteelcoat
- A cushioning mat, double base or drainage specification
- A warranty period longer than the legal conformity requirement
Pay close attention to what this does and does not say. We are not claiming that a €95.00 box has no non-return flap. We are saying that not a single manufacturer in that segment wrote it down, and that is a different kind of fact. If a manufacturer builds in an anti-fishing construction, it is the first thing to go on the product page, because it is the most expensive part of the cabinet and the best selling point. That it is not there is therefore a strong signal. What exactly can go wrong without such a construction is covered in parcel theft in the Netherlands.
There is a second line in that entry-level segment. Of the twelve models under €150, half come from a brand whose warranty handling and spare parts supply are not publicly documented. With an unbranded model at €94.99, in practice you are not buying a relationship with a manufacturer but a single transaction. That does not make such a box bad, it makes it finite: if something breaks, you buy a new one.
Where does the money go? Seven technical choices at a glance
If you take the price build-up of a parcel letterbox apart, seven items remain that really matter. Below, for each item, is what the choice does, what the market publishes about it, and what to look for when you read a product page.
What each technical choice does and what the market publishes about it
| Technical choice | What it does | What the market publishes | What to look for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Steel thickness | Determines how stiff the wall is, how much the door deforms under pressure and how firmly the lock is held | Stated for almost no model. Only Logixbox gives 1.0 mm galvanised steel for the Frontbox-Uni | If there is no number, ask for it. If it is not given, you do not know |
| Material | Determines the basic resistance to rust and the chance of deformation | Stated, but often in marketing language: galvanised, zinc-coated, powder-coated steel, aluminium | Galvanised says nothing about pretreatment and top coat. See the example further down |
| Coating class | Determines colour fastness, gloss retention and long-term corrosion resistance | Two brands give a class: Logixbox with Qualicoat Class 2 and PakketPanda with Class 2 powder coating | Without a class designation, a coating is just a colour |
| Lock | Determines how hard it is to get the door open and whether you can carry on if you lose a key | A cylinder lock with two keys is standard. Combination lock on the Practo B720NC, butterfly lock with three-point locking on the Logixbox Frontbox-Uni | Check whether spare keys and a replacement lock can be ordered |
| Anti-fishing | Prevents someone fishing the parcel back out through the letter opening with a hook or stick | Explicitly mentioned from about €179. Under €150, on no page we checked | The hard lower limit in the market. Ask for a description of how it works, not for a word |
| Base and drainage | Protects the contents against falling and against moisture coming in through the flap | PakketPanda Maxi supplies a rubber cushioning mat, eSafe Dropbox Medium a foam layer and removable double base, Logixbox sells a spaghetti mat separately for €12.50 | Not a single manufacturer published an IP rating or drainage specification |
| Warranty | Determines who bears the risk if the coating or lock fails | Allux 2 years plus 12 years against rust, eSafe and ONZO 10 years, PakketPanda 24 months, Logixbox 1 year. MEFA, Burg-Wachter and the DIY store brands state nothing | Read what the warranty covers, not just how long it lasts |
The common thread in that table is that the items that make the difference between a box that lasts ten years and one that lasts two are exactly the items not on the product page. Not steel thickness, not coating class for 61 of the 63 models, drainage nowhere. That is not a conspiracy, it is simply how the market has grown: parcel letterboxes are sold as furniture, not as building components.

Why does almost nobody state the steel thickness?
This is the most telling finding from the whole price survey. On the product pages of Gamma, Praxis, Karwei, Hornbach, bol.com and Brievenbusdirect, the steel thickness was missing for every model we checked. Not just for the €79.00 Homebox, but also for the MEFA Hazel 477 at €346.20 and the MEFA Maple 661 at €549.00. For a product whose entire promise is that it is a sheet steel cabinet that stands outside and has to stay shut, the most important material specification is missing.
There is one exception. Logixbox states that the Frontbox-Uni is made of 1.0 mm galvanised steel. That is the only publicly documented steel thickness from a premium brand we could find. That lets us do one thing and not another. What we cannot do: make a market-wide comparison of 0.5 versus 0.7 versus 1.0 millimetres, because the sources simply do not exist for that. Any table that puts such numbers side by side without a source is made up. What we can do: establish that 1.0 mm is the only published level, and that the absence of the specification for the rest is information in itself.
Why a missing number is a buying signal
Think like a manufacturer for a moment. Steel is the biggest purchasing cost of a parcel letterbox. If you go from 0.5 to 0.7 millimetres, your material cost per box rises by forty percent on that item, and you have to recover that increase in the selling price. A manufacturer who takes that step has every interest in you knowing about it. It is an argument that directly influences your purchase. So anyone who does not mention it is either leaving money on the table or has no number to be proud of. Either way, you do not know, and that is exactly the point.
That is why we do write it down. Our boxes are made of 0.7 mm galvanised sheet steel with Qualicoat Class 2 powder coating with zinc phosphate pretreatment. That is not a marketing line but a production figure: it is the thickness that comes off our own punching line, and it is the reason a BunnyBox door does not rattle in the wind. We can state it because we have our own factory. A trader buying from three suppliers gets a guaranteed sheet thickness per batch from none of them, and so cannot put it on their site either.
What do you do with this as a buyer? Simply ask. Send the shop a message asking what sheet thickness in millimetres is used and whether that is the nominal or the minimum thickness. If you get a number, you have something to compare. If you do not, you know the shop does not know either, and then the price is the only information you have.
Coating: what do Qualicoat Class 1, 2 and 3 mean?
Two brands in the entire market publish a coating class. Logixbox states "Powder coating, Qualicoat Class 2" and PakketPanda states "Class 2 powder coating". The other 61 models we looked at do mention a colour and sometimes the word powder coating, but no class. That is a pity, because the class is the only part of a coating that contains a verifiable promise.
The VMRG quality requirements (the Dutch facade industry standard) describe the classes as follows. Class 1 is the standard for outdoor use and requires 1 year of Florida weathering. Class 2 is recommended where higher gloss and colour retention are needed and requires 3 years of Florida weathering. Class 3 has excellent UV resistance. According to the VMRG, Florida is the internationally recognised reference area for weathering tests, and one year there corresponds to several years in other climates. A panel is placed outdoors there at a fixed angle facing the sun and afterwards measured for gloss retention and colour difference.
Coating classes as described in the VMRG quality requirements
| Class | Intended for | Florida weathering requirement | Mentioned in the market by |
|---|---|---|---|
| Qualicoat Class 1 | Standard for outdoor use | 1 year | None of the models checked |
| Qualicoat Class 2 | Where higher gloss and colour retention are needed | 3 years | Logixbox and PakketPanda |
| Qualicoat Class 3 | Excellent UV resistance | Not specified in the source consulted | None of the models checked |
Qualisteelcoat and corrosion classes C1 to C5
Qualicoat was originally the label for coating aluminium. For steel there is a separate label: Qualisteelcoat, managed in the Netherlands by the Vereniging Qual.ION, for both wet and powder coating. Qualisteelcoat does not work with colour fastness classes but with corrosion classes. C1 and C2 are for indoor use, C3, C4 and C5 for outdoor use, with the class rising with the severity of the environment. A parcel letterbox stands outside by definition, so the relevant classes are C3 and higher. Where water gets into a box and which class counts outdoors is covered in how watertight a parcel letterbox is.
What makes Qualisteelcoat more interesting than a brand name on a tin of paint is what certification requires: independent laboratory checks of the protection process, the paint system and the end product, plus daily recording of the pretreatment baths. That last point is the core. Powder coating almost never fails because the layer is too thin, but because the substrate was not clean or not properly converted. If the degreasing and phosphating baths are not kept at concentration every day, the layer does not adhere, and then it peels off from the edges within two winters.
Note. We have not been able to find a reliable source that sets a number of salt spray hours under ISO 9227 per Qualicoat or Qualisteelcoat class. That is why we give no hour figures here. If you come across such a table on a sales page, ask for the test report and the standard it was measured under.
What "galvanised steel" does and does not mean
The sharpest practical example from the whole survey is the Arregui Kangur at Karwei, €149.00 on 25 August 2026. That box is described as galvanised steel and as compliant with EN 13724. That sounds like two hard specifications. Yet the model has 1.6 out of 5 stars, with several complaints about rusting quickly, even when placed under cover. The model is now listed as discontinued.
This is not a verdict on the brand, it is a lesson about the word. Galvanised means there is a zinc layer on the steel. It says nothing about the thickness of that zinc layer, nothing about the pretreatment before the top coat went on, and nothing about the top coat itself. Two boxes can both rightly be called galvanised and still differ by ten years in lifespan. The same applies to the reference to EN 13724: that standard sets requirements for letterboxes, including lockability, but it is not a corrosion test. MEFA states that the Hazel 477 and the Maple 661 comply with it, and Arregui refers to it too. What the standard does and does not cover is set out in more detail in letterbox requirements in the Netherlands.
With us, on top of the galvanised sheet there is a Qualicoat Class 2 powder coating with zinc phosphate pretreatment. That is the layer that determines whether the box is still black after five winters on the north side of a facade, rather than grey-brown at the edges. We mention it explicitly because it is the item where this market most quietly cuts corners.
Lock, keys and anti-fishing: where is the mechanism in the price?
A cylinder lock with two keys is standard across almost the entire segment. You find it on the Practo Edmonton at €179.00, the Burg-Wachter eBoxx A 625 at €179.00, the PakketPanda Maxi at €239.00 and the Logixbox Trendybox at €239.00. So it is not a distinguishing feature, however often it appears in bold on a product page.
Above that it gets more interesting. The Practo B720NC Hannover at €215.00 has a combination lock instead of a key. The Logixbox Frontbox-Uni at €355.00 has a butterfly lock with three-point locking, which means the door engages the frame in three places at once instead of only at the handle. MEFA supplies a factory security lock, with two keys on the Hazel 477 and four on the Maple 661. Allux optionally offers a 6-pin Ruko cylinder instead of the standard lock.
What the price of a spare key tells you
There is a neat indicator of how seriously a manufacturer takes its locking system: whether you can order parts for it. Allux sells a blank key for €12.95, a key cut to number for €24.95 and an automatic lock for €24.95. Logixbox sells an extra letterbox key for €10.50, a parcel box key for €12.50 and a separate butterfly lock for €21.50. That means there is a numbered key system and a stock of spare parts behind those products. With an unbranded €94.99 box there is no key number and no separate lock: lose both keys and you buy a new box.
Note. Not a single parcel letterbox between €79.00 and €1,799.00 claims an SKG mark. SKG is a Dutch quality mark for cylinder locks and locks and fittings for doors and windows, not for letterbox locks. If a sales page suggests that SKG is common or required in this segment, that is not correct.
Anti-fishing: what it is and who mentions it
Fishing means pulling a parcel back out through the letter opening with a hook, a stick or a piece of wire. It is the most common way a parcel disappears from a box that is otherwise locked, and it is the reason a good box is more than a cabinet with a lock.
The anti-fishing system makes sure parcels go in, but never come out again without a key.
Logixbox, product description of the anti-fishing system, seen on 25 August 2026
The principle is essentially always the same: a flap closes automatically after delivery, the parcel drops into a locked compartment that can no longer be reached from the letter opening, and the construction physically blocks fishing with hooks or sticks. The execution differs per brand. For the Edmonton, the B720NC Hannover, the Hannover freestanding model and the B721N Bremen, Practo mentions a non-return flap with damped closing. Smart Parcel Box mentions a non-return block. In the Dropbox Medium at €1,145.00, eSafe builds in a closing damper and a shock-absorbing foam layer. For the Hazel 477 at €346.20, MEFA mentions a soft close. On the Frontbox-Uni at €355.00, Logixbox combines a magnetic catch with three-point locking. For the 600 at €239.00 to €249.00, Allux describes a specially designed letter opening that prevents removal.
Note that those descriptions vary greatly in how concrete they are. "Soft close" is a comfort feature, not security. "Non-return flap with damped closing" describes a mechanism. "Three-point locking" can be tested. When you compare two boxes, compare the description of how it works and not the number of times the word secure appears on the page.

Does a more expensive parcel letterbox also come with a longer warranty?
No. In this segment, warranty does not correlate with price, and that is one of the most useful things to know before you order. The sharpest contrast: Logixbox charges €355.00 for the Frontbox-Uni and gives 1 year of factory warranty. Allux charges €249.00 for the 600 in black and gives 2 years of product warranty plus 12 years against rust. In this case the cheaper box has the longer cover.
Published warranty periods, seen on 25 August 2026
| Brand | Published warranty | Covers | Price example in euros |
|---|---|---|---|
| Allux | 2 years product warranty plus 12 years | Full product warranty, the 12 years against rust only | 249.00 for the 600 black |
| eSafe and ONZO | 10 years | Not further specified on the product page | 1,145.00 for the Dropbox Medium Front |
| PakketPanda | 24 months | Not further specified on the product page | 239.00 for the Maxi XXXL |
| Logixbox | 1 year factory warranty | Not further specified on the product page | 355.00 for the Frontbox-Uni XXL |
| MEFA | Not stated | Not stated on the product pages checked | 346.20 for the Hazel 477 |
| Burg-Wachter | Not stated | Not stated on the product pages checked | 179.00 for the eBoxx A 625 |
| Practo, Murcian, Hannover, Arregui | Not stated | Not stated on the product pages checked | 149.00 to 279.00 |
Two things need to be said honestly here. First: 12 years against rust is narrower cover than 12 years of full product warranty. It covers corrosion of the sheet metal, not a lock that jams, a hinge that wears out or a coating that discolours. If you read those 12 years as "twelve years, everything covered", you are reading more than it says. Second: that MEFA, Burg-Wachter and the DIY store brands state no period does not mean there is no warranty. The legal conformity requirement always applies, whatever the manufacturer advertises. It only means that with those brands you have nothing extra to rely on, and that in a dispute you fall back on the seller.
The practical advice is simple: read what the warranty covers, not just how long it lasts. And keep your proof of purchase, because without a date every period is theory. With us, every series has the same material and the same finish, whichever model you choose, so the protection does not depend on which box you happen to pick.
What does the listed price not show?
The price on the product page is not the price you pay. There are four items in this segment that systematically sit next to it, and the biggest of them is not the one most people expect.
The hidden cost is the base, not the installation
Installation turns out to be manageable. The common model on the market comes pre-assembled with fixings in the box. The Practo Edmonton comes with fixings included and weighs 8.4 kilos. The Logixbox Trendybox comes with two M10 wedge anchors and weighs 17 kilos. The Allux 600 is supplied with three mounting methods. The eSafe Dropbox Medium weighs 20.5 kilos. You need a drill and half an hour, not a fitter. What anchoring costs in technique and money is covered in anchoring a parcel letterbox.
The base is another story. Many brands sell the box itself and the post or stand separately. On 25 August 2026, the Logixbox Multibox post cost €99.00, the Logixbox stand in black €135.00, the Allux 8002 mounting set €95.00, the Allux 1005 stand in stainless steel €149.00 and the Arregui universal letterbox post €43.99. So a post or stand adds €44.00 to €149.00 to the listed price. On a €239.00 box that is a mark-up of 18 to 62 percent, and it does not appear in any of the comparison tables you find on Google.
Separate bases and mounting sets, seen on 25 August 2026
| Brand | Part | Price in euros | Seen on |
|---|---|---|---|
| Arregui | Universal letterbox post | 43.99 | 25 August 2026 |
| Allux | 8002 mounting set | 95.00 | 25 August 2026 |
| Logixbox | Multibox post | 99.00 | 25 August 2026 |
| Logixbox | Stand, black | 135.00 | 25 August 2026 |
| Allux | 1005 stand, stainless steel | 149.00 | 25 August 2026 |
Our freestanding models do not have that cost. The Style, the Home and the Plus stand on their own base, so there is no post or stand to add. If you do want to build one into a wall, gate or fence, read how to build in a parcel letterbox, because that is a different trade-off with its own costs.
Same box, different colour: €86.10 difference
At the same shop, on the same day, the MEFA Hazel 477 cost €346.20 in anthracite RAL 7016 and €432.30 in white RAL 9016. Difference: €86.10, about 25 percent, for exactly the same product in a different colour. That is not a material cost. White powder is not €86 more expensive than anthracite powder on a surface of this size. This is stock policy and demand management: the colour that sells less stays in the warehouse longer and gets a higher margin. It is perfectly legitimate, but it is something to know before you click on a colour. With us, a different RAL colour costs no surcharge, because we coat in-house.
Same model, different channel
On 25 August 2026, the Practo Edmonton was listed at €179.00 at Gamma and at €245.00 at Brievenbusdirect. That latter price comes with a caveat, because it came from a category page and not from the product page itself. Intratuin does not stock this product, and Karwei only sells parcel letterboxes individually and not as a category of its own. The point stands: a difference of €66.00 on the same article number is normal in this segment, and the search term you type decides which of the two you see first.
VAT and shipping costs
Prices in this segment include 21 percent Dutch VAT as standard. Hornbach explicitly adds "incl. VAT, excl. shipping costs". Logixbox shows both prices side by side, for example 319.00 and 263.64, 439.00 and 362.81, 355.00 and 293.39, and advertises free shipping. That makes comparing harder than it looks, because the weights in this segment are considerable: Practo Edmonton 8.4 kilos, Practo Hannover 18.2 kilos, Logixbox Trendybox 17 kilos, PakketPanda Maxi 17 kilos, eSafe Dropbox Medium 20.5 kilos. Where a webshop ships for free and a DIY store does not, the listed prices are not comparable. Always add shipping before you put two prices side by side.

What does a parcel letterbox cost per year?
A purchase price says little until you spread it over its useful life. The problem is that there is no independent source that establishes a lifespan in years for this type of product. No Consumentenbond, no Stiftung Warentest, no trade association. So everything you see below is a calculation assumption and explicitly not a measured lifespan. We based the assumptions on something that is documented, namely the brand's own warranty period, and where that is missing on a round figure that we state explicitly.
Costs per year, worked example and not a measured lifespan
| Model | Price in euros | Assumed lifespan | Cost per year in euros | Basis of the assumption |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Homebox Pakketbox, bol.com | 79.00 | 5 years | 15.80 | Round assumption, no published warranty |
| Livista PB400, bol.com | 103.95 | 5 years | 20.79 | Round assumption, no published warranty |
| Practo Edmonton, Gamma | 179.00 | 7 years | 25.57 | Round assumption, no published warranty |
| Allux 600 black, Brievenbusdirect | 249.00 | 12 years | 20.75 | Set equal to the 12-year rust warranty period |
| Logixbox Frontbox-Uni XXL | 355.00 | 10 years | 35.50 | Round assumption, factory warranty is 1 year |
| MEFA Maple 661 grey | 549.00 | 12 years | 45.75 | Round assumption, warranty not stated |
| eSafe Dropbox Medium Front | 1,145.00 | 15 years | 76.33 | Round assumption, published warranty is 10 years |
Two conclusions come out of that table, and the first is the most important. Calculated per year, the entry-level segment and the branded mid-range are close together: €15.80 versus €20.75. That is a difference of just under five euros a year, about forty cents a month. And for those forty cents a month, in the case of the Allux 600, you do get an anti-fishing construction, a powder-coated finish, a key system with orderable spare parts and twelve years of cover against rust. That is the sum where the entry-level segment comes off worst, and it is a sum you will not find on any product page.
The second conclusion is about the top end. The premium box comes to about €76 a year, four times the mid-range, and that stays true even if you write it off over fifteen years. That segment buys design, material and volume. There is no cost advantage in it, and it is not sold that way either. Anyone who says a €1,145 box pays for itself is calculating something that does not follow from the figures. What a notification on your phone costs if you build it yourself is covered in a smart parcel letterbox.
What this table deliberately does not do is factor in the cost of missed parcels. We have no reliable figure for the average value of a missed parcel in the Netherlands, nor for the number of parcels per household per year. We do not estimate that. We do know what a trip to a collection point costs, and we do work that out below.
What does it cost not to buy a parcel letterbox?
First, let us clear up a misunderstanding. There is no subscription market for home parcel lockers in the Netherlands. Not a single provider rents out a parcel letterbox or parcel locker to private customers by the month. PostNL delivers free of charge to a parcel locker you buy yourself and refers you to external suppliers for the purchase. Subscription models do exist, but only in the business segment and for apartment complexes. So the alternative to buying is not renting, it is collecting yourself.
Collecting yourself costs time and mileage. On 28 January 2026, the Vereniging Zakelijke Rijders (Dutch Association of Business Drivers) published mileage costs per car class: €0.28 per kilometre for an entry-level car, €0.38 for a mid-size car and €0.51 for a premium car. The tax-free allowance in the Netherlands in 2026 is €0.23 per kilometre. Below is what a return trip to a collection point costs, calculated with those published rates.
Cost of a return trip to a collection point, calculated with the VZR rates of 28 January 2026
| Return trip | Tax rate 0.23 per km | Entry-level car 0.28 per km | Mid-size 0.38 per km | Premium 0.51 per km |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2 km | 0.46 | 0.56 | 0.76 | 1.02 |
| 5 km | 1.15 | 1.40 | 1.90 | 2.55 |
| 10 km | 2.30 | 2.80 | 3.80 | 5.10 |
| 20 km | 4.60 | 5.60 | 7.60 | 10.20 |
The amounts in the €0.38 column appear like this in the source: 2 kilometres is €0.76, 5 kilometres €1.90, 10 kilometres €3.80 and 20 kilometres €7.60. The other columns are calculated from the published rates using the same method. What we do not know is how far the average Dutch household lives from a collection point. That figure does not exist in any source we could verify, so we do not estimate it. We do know that PostNL has more than 3,500 locations and more than 1,000 parcel lockers, and that at the end of 2025 there were 9,309 parcel lockers nationwide.
Time is the other cost, and it differs per household. What is established: according to the ACM Post and Parcel Monitor 2024, 33 percent of consumers collect their parcel from a collection point by car. The same monitor calculates that an average home delivery costs 100 grams of CO2, while a petrol car emits an average of 204 grams per kilometre. So collecting by car is already more polluting than home delivery after about half a kilometre. That is not a price argument, but it does belong in the picture.
How often does a parcel go to a collection point unasked?
More often than you would think, and that is why this sum is not theoretical. On 25 May 2026, Radar (a Dutch consumer affairs programme) polled 19,908 respondents. The results: 60 percent had a parcel taken to a collection point unasked in the past three years. Of that group, 89 percent were simply at home at the time of delivery. 81 percent suspect the delivery driver never came to the door. 49 percent filed a complaint, and of those, 14 percent received acknowledgement.
That 89 percent is the real argument underlying this whole article. Being at home does not help. Why it happens and what you can do about it is covered in why your delivery driver skips your parcel letterbox and in receiving a parcel when you are not home. What each carrier does in practice with a box at the facade is covered in what each carrier does.
There is another cost that does not land with you but does affect how the market behaves. Sendcloud asked more than a thousand Dutch consumers about their behaviour after a delivery problem: 65 percent do not return to a webshop if a parcel goes missing, 51 percent demand compensation and 36 percent abandon an order because of concerns about delivery. That explains why webshops and carriers have an ever greater interest in a fixed, lockable delivery spot at home.
For completeness, and because the contrast is instructive: on 26 November 2014, Radar polled 39,748 panel members, and 60 percent rejected a locker at home as impractical. That figure is twelve years old and is at odds with the current growth in supply. We mention it as a historical contrast, not as a description of today's market.
What is the best parcel letterbox according to the Consumentenbond?
That question has no answer, because that test does not exist. The Consumentenbond has not published a test of parcel letterboxes. Stiftung Warentest, its German counterpart, has not done a comparative product test of Paketkasten either. It has published two background articles: "Paketdienste: Eigene Paketkasten statt Benachrichtigung im Briefkasten" of 29 October 2015, with no quality verdict, and "Briefkasten: Post nur mit Schloss?" of 23 November 2016, with a reference to the DIN EN 13724 standard. Neither contains a ranking of models.
Note. If you search for "Consumentenbond pakketbrievenbus test", the top results are pages with titles like "TOP 8 Consumentenbond" on volgensconsument.nl, bijmeer.nl, volgensconsumenten.nl and bijenmeer.nl. Those are affiliate comparison sites without their own laboratory test. They borrow the name of a testing organisation for a list that runs on sales commission. We do not quote them and do not link to them. The same goes for the German sites called "Paketbriefkasten Test 2026": they do not carry out their own lab tests.
Can you recognise such a site? Yes, by three things. There is no measurement method anywhere. There is nothing about how many units were tested and for how long. And the ranking consists solely of products you can click through to on the spot. A genuine product comparison states the sample, the test duration and the measurement standard, and almost always also includes models you cannot buy anywhere through that page.
So what should you do? Compare on the specifications that can be verified and that we have listed above. Ask for the steel thickness. Ask which coating class was used. Ask how the anti-fishing construction works, in terms of mechanism and not adjectives. Ask whether spare keys and a replacement lock can be ordered. Ask whether a base is included or comes separately. Five questions, and you know more than any top eight can tell you. And if you are torn between two models, look at which model suits your situation.
What do you get from us for your money?
We do not give a price list here, because the prices are on the product pages and in the parcel boxes collection, and those are more up to date than an article. What we do is write down exactly what comes as standard, so you can put it next to the seven items from the table above.
All series are made of 0.7 mm galvanised sheet steel with Qualicoat Class 2 powder coating with zinc phosphate pretreatment. That is the item for which we found no number anywhere else in the survey, and it is the item for which we can give our own production figure because we produce in our own factory. Every box has a door with a key lock and two keys, and a drop flap on top where the delivery driver can put the parcel. Colours: RAL 9005 black, RAL 9010 white, RAL 7036 platinum grey and RAL 7016 anthracite, plus combinations with dark teak or light oak. With us, a different colour does not cost an €86.10 surcharge, because we coat ourselves.
The three freestanding models stand on their own base. So there is no post or stand of €44.00 to €149.00 to add, and in the comparison that makes more of a difference than most people think. The Style, the Home and the Plus are supplied as a self-assembly kit with instructions. The Compact is the only series that comes out of the box pre-assembled: unpack, on the wall, done. For a 6.5 kilo wall-mounted model, that is half an hour's work saved.
The four BunnyBox series, dimensions in millimetres, width x depth x height
| Model | Type | Parcels up to | Outer dimensions | Post and parcels | Assembly | Packed weight |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Compact | Wall-mounted model | 300 x 200 x 200 | 365 x 250 x 450 | Separate slot, 1 compartment | Supplied pre-assembled | 6.5 kg |
| Style | Freestanding column with wood-effect front | 350 x 320 x 200 | 380 x 365 x 1000 | Separate slot, 1 compartment | Self-assembly kit | 17.0 kg |
| Home | Freestanding | 370 x 320 x 210 | 410 x 380 x 1020 | 1 compartment | Self-assembly kit | 16.0 kg |
| Plus | Tall freestanding column | 450 x 320 x 210 | 500 x 370 x 1120 | Separate compartments | Self-assembly kit | 20.0 kg |
The parcel compartment of a freestanding model is almost half a metre tall. In practice, that means a week's worth of orders fits in and you do not have to empty it every evening. In numbers: the BunnyBox Home and the BunnyBox Style hold a maximum of 14 book packages, the BunnyBox Plus 18. Four shoeboxes go into every freestanding model. Phone boxes: 9 in the Compact, 40 in the Home and the Style, 42 in the Plus. That column is set to maximum, so with tilting just as a delivery driver would do.
If you often get post and parcels mixed up, the Plus is the answer, because it has separate compartments for both. If your facade is narrow or you do not want anything in the garden, the BunnyBox Compact is the wall-mounted model that fits. If you want a wood-effect front with a modern front door, that is the Style. Always someone home with a BunnyBox, even when you are out for a while.

View the models
If you are torn between two models, start with the size of what comes in, not with the price. What size parcel letterbox shows how to work that out in five minutes, and whether PostNL may put a parcel in your parcel letterbox covers what the carrier is formally allowed to do with it.
What does a good parcel letterbox cost?
On 25 August 2026 the market ran from €79.00 to €1,799.00. The hard lower limit above which manufacturers mention a non-return flap or anti-fishing feature is around €179.00. If you want that feature, that is your starting point.
Is a €100 parcel letterbox good enough?
That depends on what you expect. You get a lockable cabinet with a cylinder lock. What you did not see mentioned on any page we checked under €150.00 is a non-return flap, a steel thickness, a coating class or a cushioning base.
What is the best parcel letterbox according to the Consumentenbond?
The Consumentenbond (Dutch Consumers' Association) has not published a test of parcel letterboxes, and neither has Stiftung Warentest. Sites with titles like "TOP 8 Consumentenbond" are affiliate comparison sites without their own laboratory test.
What does a parcel letterbox cost at Gamma, Praxis or Karwei?
At Gamma on 25 August 2026 you could see the Practo Edmonton for €179.00, Murcian for €209.00 and the Hannover freestanding model for €219.00. At Praxis, the Burg-Wachter eBoxx A 625 for €179.00 and the Practo B721N Bremen for €279.00. Karwei stocked the Arregui Kangur for €149.00, now discontinued.
Why is the steel thickness not stated anywhere?
It was missing for every model we checked at Gamma, Praxis, Karwei, Hornbach, bol.com and Brievenbusdirect, including models at €346.20 and €549.00. Only Logixbox gives a number: 1.0 mm galvanised steel for the Frontbox-Uni. Our boxes are 0.7 mm galvanised sheet steel with Qualicoat Class 2 powder coating with zinc phosphate pretreatment.
Does a post or stand come on top of the price?
For brands that sell the box separately, yes. On 25 August 2026 that cost €43.99 to €149.00 extra. Our freestanding models stand on their own base, so there is no such cost.
How much warranty do I get on a parcel letterbox?
That varies widely and does not follow price. Allux gives 2 years of product warranty plus 12 years against rust at €249.00, Logixbox 1 year at €355.00, eSafe and ONZO 10 years, PakketPanda 24 months. MEFA, Burg-Wachter and the DIY store brands state nothing on the product page.
Can you rent a parcel letterbox or pay monthly?
Not as a private customer in the Netherlands. Not a single provider rents out a parcel letterbox or parcel locker to consumers by the month. Subscription models only exist for businesses and apartment complexes.
Why is the same parcel letterbox more expensive in white?
It happens. The MEFA Hazel 477 cost €346.20 in anthracite and €432.30 in white RAL 9016, at the same shop on the same day. A difference of €86.10, about 25 percent, for the same product.
What does a parcel letterbox cost per year?
As a worked example: €79.00 over 5 years is €15.80 a year, €249.00 over 12 years is €20.75 a year and €1,145.00 over 15 years is €76.33 a year. Those are calculation assumptions, not a measured lifespan. There is no independent source that establishes the lifespan of this type of product.
Last checked on 25 August 2026. All prices in this article were recorded on that day itself at bol.com, Gamma, Praxis, Karwei, Hornbach, Brievenbusdirect, logixbox.nl and pakketpanda.nl, across 63 models. Sources used: the VMRG quality requirements for the description of Qualicoat Class 1, 2 and 3 and Florida weathering; Qualisteelcoat and the Vereniging Qual.ION for corrosion classes C1 to C5 and the certification requirements; Vereniging Zakelijke Rijders, mileage costs per car class, 28 January 2026; ACM Post- en pakketmonitor 2024 for the 33 percent share collecting by car and the CO2 comparison; Radar poll of 25 May 2026 among 19,908 respondents; Radar poll of 26 November 2014 among 39,748 panel members, only as a historical contrast; Sendcloud research among more than 1,000 Dutch consumers; Stiftung Warentest, "Paketdienste: Eigene Paketkasten statt Benachrichtigung im Briefkasten" of 29 October 2015 and "Briefkasten: Post nur mit Schloss?" of 23 November 2016, both without a product test; PostNL for the number of locations and parcel lockers. Where sources contradict each other or are missing, the text says so: there is no Consumentenbond test, there are no reliable salt spray hours per coating class, there is no documented lifespan for this type of product, and there is no figure for the average distance to a collection point. We check this page every quarter for prices and range, and immediately after a change in a standard or a new study.
